Explaining Transition SetupRACE DAY REHEARSAL

All athletes – no matter what the sport – can benefit from a “Race Day Rehearsal.”  This is a practice or a workout in which you do everything exactly as you plan to do on race day to ensure every little single detail will work.  It’s not just as simple as, “Hey, I’m going to go out and ride 56 miles because that’s what I’m doing in my race.”  There are so many more details that need to be considered.

If a “Race Day Rehearsal” workout is not a part of your regular training plan, I would encourage you to start adding those in.  Today’s blog will cover some of the things you should consider when planning your Race Day Rehearsal workout.

Here are all the aspects you should consider when preparing for a Race Day Rehearsal:

  • Morning
    • Routine – this includes when you will get up and how much time you need to get ready for your race
    • Morning Nutrition – what will you eat? How much earlier than the actual start time will you need to eat?
  • Swim
    • What do you expect the water conditions to be?
    • Will you use a wetsuit or not?
    • What kind of goggles will you use?
  • Bike
    • What will you use for nutrition?
    • What will your target pace be?
    • Is the course flat, hilly, windy?
    • What do you plan to wear?
    • How will you have your bike set up for race day?
  • Run
    • What is your target pace for the event?
    • What is your nutrition plan like?
    • How will you carry your fuel?
    • What shoes will you be running in?

There are so many things to really consider before race day.  In order to make sure you have everything covered, you are going to want to do a “dry run”, which is also called a Race Day Rehearsal.  Do EVERYTHING you plan to do on race day.  Make sure it all works.  Make sure what you are wearing is comfortable.  Your nutrition needs to be on point.  The target pace needs to make sense for you and the race you are competing in.

This can be a lot to take in so in order to make sure you cover every single point to consider, I have created a downloadable PDF.  Print it, keep it with your race gear and go over it before every single event that you participate in.  If you are thorough, you will leave nothing to chance on your race day.  You can get this PDF by clicking here:  Race Day Rehearsal.
